The new student council, led by student body president Maddie Parke, have their new-year plates full with homecoming. The council met once over the summer for several hours to discuss the new student orientation in which the, mostly freshmen, new students discovered their house and mix and mingled with one another. The house discussed this along with one of the biggest events in the school year...HOMECOMING 2017! The stage is set for Spanish Fort Community Center. The council tried many other locations but most were already booked due to the time of year, with weddings and other dances taking place.
Last year the council had no laws or precedences to work with but that had to be changed immediately. At the same meeting the council had to finalize a draft of the Student Council Constitution. The document was shared, edited, and finalized and now the council will be able to enforce some much needed law and order in the conference room. Last year Mrs. Loegler was the adult in authority in the council room but with her heavy work load one of the new History teachers, Mrs. Andrews, mother of Maeve Andrews, took over the position, aiding the council in their decisions and some of the financial aspects of the operation.
The council will meet on Thursdays, just like they did last year, during lunch. During this time they will have a busy agenda of topics and events to discuss. They discuss the Friday assemblies, club meetings, major events, house competitions, drives, and other student/community related items.
In the most recent meeting Thursday August, 31, the Council discussed Homecoming T-shirts which you need to order by September 12th. They also formulated a committee for poster-making for the upcoming dress out days during homecoming week.
